KUMC Reopening Information

Updated March 9th, 2021

Please help us by following our protocols

During this past year, we have constantly evaluated and adjusted to the changing world around us. The mask mandate in the state of Texas has been lifted as of March 10th, 2021, so we want to share with you how we will respond at KUMC. Here is our approach through April:

Sunday Mornings at KUMC

On Sunday mornings, funerals, and weddings, we will continue to ask that everyone over the age of 10 wear a face-covering/mask. These are the times where we have the largest gathering of people inside. We rejoice that our numbers for in-person worship and classes have been increasing over the past several weeks. We know it is partly due to vaccinations but also because people feel safe here under our existing protocols.

Our team of volunteers will be bringing back coffee and bottled waters starting Sunday, April 11th, for Sunday mornings in the commons. We have spread out the tables and coffee stations to allow for ample distancing if you are comfortable enjoying a cup of coffee. Our team has worked intentionally to prepare each coffee station with single-use, disposable sweeteners, and creamers. We have also spaced out the smaller tables in the commons for you to set your coffee down while removing your mask to drink. Thank you for being considerate of others around you and keeping your face-covering/mask on while you are walking around on Sunday mornings.

We will keep the current seating arrangements that provide for fixed social distance seating as well as seating for groupings based upon your comfort and preference. This approach on Sundays allows us to keep singing and worshipping as we have the past eight months. In the Sanctuary, that seating is located in the outer two sections on the floor and the entire balcony.  In our Vine services, you can find that spacing in the back three rows.  In Refugio, look for the area with chairs in groupings of 2-4 with 6’ space around each set.

Weekdays at KUMC

For all weekday activities, wearing a mask/face-covering is now optional. Our weekday activities are smaller groups, and we believe that we have learned how to be aware and considerate of those around us.  Please use your best judgment and consider wearing a mask whenever you cannot socially distance.  There are two exceptions to this weekday approach.

1) The School for Little Children must follow the guidelines established by Licensing and will communicate any changes directly to our families.

2) The choral department will wear masks/face-coverings and social distance to provide the opportunity for singing at rehearsals.

When should I stay home?

We want to assure the safety of each guest and their families. To do so we ask you to stay home if:

  • You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19

  • You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19

  • You had direct physical contact with the person

  • You shared eating or drinking utensils

  • They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you

Or if you have any (or combination) of the following:

  • Fever or chills

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Diarrhea

If you have to stay home or quarantine, we upload our most recent message here, on our Facebook page, and on Youtube so you do not miss out. Feel free to connect to our Facebook group as well.
