WEEK 5: MARCH 27-April 2
Raised for a Voice
Jesus brings great intentionality to his interactions with children throughout the gospels. This week we turn to the Resurrection of a young girl and reflect on the ways that Jesus gives voice to the young children. We are reminded that Christ has raised us all to have a voice and a part in the Kingdom and that includes the precious children of our own community. Spend some time reading through this Resurrection story and prepare to be encouraged from some of our own children, parents, and teachers.
MARCH 29
Modeled Faith
By Alison Nobles – Parent
I remember as a young girl spending the night with my grandmother and retreating to her room with her at night so she could kneel next to her bed to pray. She would say her prayers aloud and commit her time to God every night. This truly was my first experience as a child where I understood what it meant to have faith and I cherished that time with her and yearned for God’s love while she prayed. As parents, we are called to teach our children to have faith in God. God has great purpose for them and when they can live in faith, they will be able to fulfill this calling. We want them to know that ultimately faith is what saves.
Ephesians 2:8 says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift from God.”
Although this is the foundation upon which faith is grounded, it goes beyond this for our children and teaching them to trust in the Lord can help them when they are scared, worried and face uncertain circumstances. Where do we want them to go when they feel helpless? When we teach them to focus on their faith through understanding, experiences, teachable moments and we reinforce it with repeated messages and exposures, they can move mountains.
Jesus wanted his disciples to learn the true meaning of servanthood through their faith so He washed their feet. When we teach children to experience the true beauty of their faith by teaching them to help others without receiving anything in return, imagine what kind of faith we are building in them. This is an everlasting faith!
Matthew 13:23 states, “the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
Faith is a spiritual gift from God that is not just reserved for adults. When we teach children to have faith, we are helping them to begin the journey of growing in this life long process. We are showing them that it is a gift to walk in faith and in doing so you can be filled with peace, love, joy and a spirit of giving.
How do you see KUMC Rising Up to support our children?
Parent or not, there are others that see the faith you carry…why is it so important to share what God has done for you?
